New Beginnings...

This year intermediate OPAL (advanced learners grades 3 – 5) students are experiencing an inquiry based program that focuses on students' interests, intellect, and their independence as learners.

Our inquiry plan embeds learning experiences that create deep knowledge and deep understanding of a curriculum theme or topic, and will lead students toward gradual independence in their own learning.

The year will be broken out into three modules for each grade level:

The first module is designed to introduce students at all three grade levels to their own brains and learning styles.

The second module will introduce inquiry to the students with a thematic guided-inquiry unit for each grade level.  Third grade will be exploring 'sound,' fourth grade will be exploring'Community Connections,' and fifth grade will be exploring 'survival.'

The third module will be an independent inquiry project defined by the student.  This "Passion project" will allow students to use inquiry to explore a topic of their own interest and share what they learn with others.
