5th Grade OPALees weigh in on the brain...

  1. We can excersise and eat healthy every day
    that can help you with things like eating a good breakfast every day.If you got a tumor on your cerbellum you get it off that would make you very sick you would not be able to talk for a while.You should try to stay healthy and give your brain power every day like fuel.Food is fuel there are many ways to fuel your brain.

  2. We are using tools like Edmodo and Wallwisher because then we can talk to each other from other schools. We need to talk to each other because then we can share our knowledge. We can also get new knowledge and share with the rest of our class what we are learning. This ties into our ELA class and we can share like what or neurons do and how they send messages through our bodies.-Camryn

  3. In Opal in fifth grade we are using a lot of tools like Edmodo and Wallwisher. Edmodo is a internet tool that is like Facebook for kids! But, it’s private for Opal students only. Wallwisher is a blog for kids. These internet tools are important because you can see what other people have to say and, other people get to hear what you have to say, and learn new things! - Sophia

  4. Neurons are very important for the human race. The human body has millions of neurons that send messages to your brain, and the brain sends messages to different parts of your body through the neurons. Whenever you learn something new you make a new connection. Also the neurons store memories, so when a new neuron is created a new memory can be stored in it. Ms. Byrne taught us about neurons so we can understand how we can move our body parts. For example, when I type my brain is sending a message to my neurons to move my fingers.-ANNA

  5. There are millions of neurons in your brain. They are important to your body because they help you learn, store memory and help you move your body parts. The neurons are able to move your body parts by having the neurons travel from your brain to the part you want to move in a split second. Once you make a new memory a new neuron forms. By Jack

  6. We learned about neurons in Opal. You can grow or strengthen neurons by practicing things, remembering things, visualizing things, and using new information. There are four parts to the brain. They are called the frontal lobe, the parietal lobe, the temporal lobe, and the occipital lobe. I’m telling you this because if you damage one of the parts of your brain, that part of your brain might not be able to function properly anymore. For example, if you damaged the temporal lobe, you might loose your memory and get amnesia. On the other hand you can do good things for your brain by exercising and eating right. Like I said earlier, you can help your brain grow by remembering things, practicing things, visualizing things, and using new information. These are some things that can help you help your brain.
